I’m getting cranky

Now I’m generally an easy-going girl but of late things have really been bugging me in the blogosphere. I know that my little blog is somewhat rustic and unrefined. I use an old camera and remote, no fancy photography. No fancy backdrops. No fancy posing. But I offer you variety; I pretty much never wear the same outfit twice and my taste lurches wildly on a day to day basis. I give you outfits, food, foliage and the odd bit of photography from when I’m out an about. Yes, I’m preaching to the converted, clearly, if you’re reading this.

What I’m saying is that it irritates me when I see other blogs which I consider to be kind of similar (or in some cases, far shoddier if I’m being blunt) gaining loads more followers and support. Realising I’m sounding like a total bitch but it’s really grating on me that I get the feeling I get snubbed by some bloggers who for some reason don’t much want to be associated with me/my blog. ‘Country Girl Does Norfolk’ is clearly not drawing affection from all corners, I guess some people pre-judge what I’m about, but in fact I’m not a thick inbred or a cowgirl. I just happen to like rural living and moved to Norfolk.

The blogging world has opened my eyes to a whole mass of such lovely people but with ladies we all know it can turn uber bitchy in a flash. Well this is my bitchy moment! I’ve never been a popular person, so frankly so many of you following the blog and having a chat on Twitter is a total surprise.

What I ought to be saying to you lovely people actually reading this is thank you so much for sticking around. I’d rather be surrounded by quality not quantity, so meh to those who don’t want to take the time to get to know me.

Don’t even get me started on the fab blogs out there that are under-followed, there are so many of you.

  1. Well Sophie, I love your blog! I will never stop following or commenting, I like the variety and I love your down to earthness!
I found myself very annoyed at a time where I followed a blog or two and probably commented about 20 times or more on each and never received any acknowledgement of any of the comments on their blog or mine which I found strangely rude!

  2. BTW, If any consolation, I have 204 less followers than you!!!

  3. Oh hunny what you like! You blog is fab and in the words of Billy Joel " don't go changing, trying to please" folk, we love you just the way you are!

  4. It's a strange one, I do wonder why some bloggers 'hit it off' all of a sudden, whilst others put a lot more work and passion into it over time, but don't seem to get any acknowledgement.
For me, it's about getting to know my followers, and appreciating the people who do take time to acknowledge what I have to say and write about xxx

  5. You are absolutely right when you say it is quality not quantity. This is your blog, your words, ideas and thoughts and it's wonderful. I enjoy your blog, I read every post, even if I don't leave a comment on them all. Keep doing what you are doing, it's real and it's you.
And, what's more, rural girls rock!

  6. I enjoy your variety. You're right though some blogs that don't seem overly wonderful get loads of comments on every post while some of us are lucky to hit double figures. No accounting for taste. As 'please may I said' don't go changing - we like you just the way you are!

  7. I don't think your blog is basic at all, it's well structured and your outfits are varied. I'm a smaller blog too, I could change what I do but I prefer to be 'me' just the same as you.

  8. haha brilliant post and sooooo true!

You are lovely and I love reading your blog so who cares if people don't read it, it just means they are missing out on a great blog.

I have to admit I notice one particular blog (there are many more) that seems to have loads of followers and yet the person seems very self centred and conceited but I guess thats what people like reading!
I have left comments on this blog once and they have never bothered once to look at mine so I don't bother anymore. Its not a blog I follow. There are a couple more like this and what I find the most annoying is a) if you leave a comment asking a question and they never bother to reply...I mean how rude! and b) when you leave a comment (or more than one) and they never even once look at your blog. I never ask for followers I am so grateful for the ones i have.

I notice I have lost a couple of followers lately too but to be honest I think well if you don't like my blog then thats fine don't follow and some people only join for giveaways which is also terrible.

    Sorry for the ranting!!!

Sophie you are lovely and your blog is FAB. xx

  9. I love your blog!

I think the outfits you put together are fab, the food that you or your husband cook always looks so yummy (and makes me a v.jealous student haha) and the photos you post of your adventures are always great to see!

There are lots of blogs that are underappreciated, and its always the nicest people that it's happening to people - when they're not begging for followers! But unfortuantely we can be mega bitchy, but one day people will realise and it wont be the ones with masses of followers that are being appreciated. But the ones with proper content.

    Love, Elizabeth xx

  10. The same thing frustrates me too! I know that if I wasted money on expensive current high street things, bought a better camera and posed in the middle of a street full of people I would get way more followers. But then people would just comment along the lines of wow this is great/i muse have it/i need it etcetc.
I prefer the way we blog (get me, putting us on a pedestal!) as we write about us as well as what we wore, we write about food and days out, we interact with the people that comment. you don't need to change, and much as it is easy for me to say, you shouldn't feel you need to! I am always coming across well written blogs who have so few followers its a travesty!

    lots of love xxx

  12. you have an awesome blog! and i agree, it's quality vs. quantity. i feel like it's been so nice to get to know other bloggers like you, and i totally get inspiration from you! don't get down. i have to say, a lot of times many people get followers from following and asking others to follow back. but that's not the kind of relationship you really want, right? anyway, you're fabulous, sophie, just remember that!!!

  13. Ah Sophie, I was a bit surprised by this rant! I know what you mean though - I feel the same way sometimes. When you put a lot of effort in to posts and see other blogs chucking out the odd post and getting loads of followers and comments, it is so frustrating. I love the variety of your blog and I know how much effort goes in to taking outfit photos, so well done for all the work you put in! I have been so lax with outfit posts lately due to lack of time and feel like my blog is getting stuck in a rut!

By the looks of these comments your followers are the good 'uns!! x

  15. I hope everything is okay Sophie. I love reading your blog. I may not comment much but I do read it, I'm just a little busy at the moment.
I hope that you continue as you are despite it not being some people's cup of tea. Its nice to see a blog that is as individual as yours xx
